Comments from the cast members

The cast members have been meeting as part of the rehearsal schedule.  A photo shoot was arranged for one of the schedules and further work was done in relation to team building and stories relating to cancer.

As part of the evaluation process they were asked 2 questions - here are some of their responses:

What struck me about today’s session?

Team building day 20 December 2009

Despite the snow and cold weather everyone arrived on time. Although the heating was not working that day we had a very productive session.

Everyone had heard about last years Diabetes play and the community development approach and becoming champions. We explained the process is more than the shows, it includes CAMS and the bilingual Participatory Workshops preceding the community performances.

They also came prepared with their personal cancer stories.

Audition Day

The Auditions flyer was circulated to over 200 people as well as promoted in the local press and radio and of course word of mouth to everybody we know!

Finally 6th Dec arrives and we are waiting at the Normanton Park Community Centre on a fine but cold Sunday afternoon.

Waiting tentatively for the first arrival - Mobile phone rings: Where exactly are you? I can see the park but I am on the opposite side of the road? Can you tell me where to park?

People had come for auditions not only from Derby but from the East Midlands. As the teas, coffees and cold drinks were being served the room began to buzz with new folk making their introductions and friends from the distance past reconnecting again.

8 people had now arrived and also two young children who were very keen and came with their dad.
